Paulo Colchao Claux, former field assistant of the Punta San Juan Program (2015-2016), is a Veterinarian Zootechnician graduated from the U. Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Paulo is interested in the health and conservation of ecosystems, the interactions between humans, animals, and the environment, and how these can affect the health of one another.
As a collaborator he has elaborated the " Punta San Juan Necropsy Guide for Otariids" a step-by-step guide to carry out necropsies in the area. Through this work the anomalous mortality of Peruvian fur seals from interaction with fisheries was reported at Punta San Juan. He has also actively participated in the development and execution of the "Monitoring Plan of the rodent community of the Punta San Juan Reserve". He has participated as a field assistant in various investigations conducted in recent years, such as health monitoring of the population of South American sea lions, Peruvian fur seals, Humboldt Penguins and guano birds, as well as projects in foraging ecology of pinnipeds and Humboldt penguins, national Humboldt penguin surveys, etc. He has also collaborated in environmental education with the local community as part of the project "Building bridges with Punta San Juan". Currently, Paulo is finishing a year of training at the Institute for Conservation Medicine at the Saint Louis Zoo, where he is writing scientific articles and disseminating the efforts of the Punta San Juan Program among collaborating institutions.
