Lyanne Pierina Ampuero Merino holds a degree in Biology from the National University of San Agustín from Arequipa, Peru. Since 2013, she began working with seabirds when she joined the Punta San Juan Program as a volunteer. Her undergraduate thesis research focused on the behavior and reproductive success of Inca terns (Larosterna inca) in artificial and natural nests at Punta San Juan. She has led pilot studies related to the eradication of invasive rodents to benefit seabird populations in Punta San Juan and the Lobos de Afuera Islands in Peru. She also worked for the project "Monitoring of seabirds to help the functionality of MPAs in Peru" with the objective of determining the foraging distribution of Peruvian boobies, Humboldt penguins, Inca terns and Guanay cormorants in Punta San Juan. Now she is main researcher of two projects related to the foraging behavior of seabirds in Punta San Juan: “Tracking of Guanay Cormorant in Punta San Juan”; and “Use of the marine habitat and foraging behavior of the main resident seabird species in Punta San Juan, Peru”. Since 2019, she works as a Research Assistant of the Punta San Juan Program and is in charge of the organization of databases, conducts data analysis, development of monitoring and research protocols with collaborators and students, collaborates with fieldwork, logistics support and is in charge of application and follow up of authorizations with Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and government institutions for implementation of Punta San Juan Program research projects.
